ReplyDeleteHi Carol,
This is a really, really odd question so I'm not sure if you can help, but
here goes:
My dad grew up in Little River NS. They had a small orchard and used to pick
apples that were always ready in late August. Dad called them August Whites
but I have no idea what official variety they might be. I can remember they
had whitish skin and were the main ingredient in my nana's pies.
Long story is I really want to make a spectacular pie for Dad's 60th
birthday and he always said that those apples were the best. I'm trying to
source those apples if I can get them, but I don't even know where this
miraculous tree was and I can't get to Little River to search before Sunday.
Let me know if you have any idea.
If anyone can help Angie - let us know!!!!

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI am a teacher at a Junior High school in Dartmouth and I am in the process of starting a school garden. I am posting here in hopes that I can get some advice regarding growing Haskap berries in my school's garden. I have been searching the internet for information regarding success stories, but I have yet to find any information of it be done before.
Since my school has a lot of asphalt and not a lot of green space, I'm wondering if you think I could be successful planting Haskap plants in deep raised beds - built from stacked 4x4s (a top asphalt or grass)? It might be possible to grow a few plants in the small green space we do have, however I would need to complete a soil test to determine it's quality. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.
